Strange umpiring practices
THE EDITOR: Yes, we lost the 1st One Day in a disastrous fashion.
The discipline we showed in the first half of the SA Innings seemed to just disappear.
However, I would like to know why Kallis seems to get the benefit of strange umpiring decisions. He got several in the Test series and he got another yesterday. He was to me clearly out lbw. Rudolph had a similar decision go in his favour. But Lara and Sarwan did not get the same benefit in the WI innings. We seem to continue to get these unfortunate mistakes by the umpires in SA.
These two decisions ripped the heart out of our reply and seemed to completely demoralise the entire team as the rest of the batsmen could not cope with the pressure. But when you lose your two best batsmen in this way the confidence that a player should have in the umpires is shattered and he becomes scared to let the ball touch his pads. When is the third umpire going to be used as mandatory for all umpiring decisions? Cannot the WICBC use these as examples to petition the ICC?
