A washout
The opening of the Divas Calypso Cabaret International at Hilton Trinidad was ruined by consistent rainfall that had patrons taking cover under any and every thing. While the tent provided patrons with some very good calypsoes the opening night was a bit disorganised. There is need for a stage manager and everything should not be left up to MC Rachel Price, who did not get the right name in the right position at times. The intermission was as long as, or even longer than the first half of the show and believe it or not the rain did not fall throughout. Manager Rudolph Ottley needs to sit down and plan his show with this time constraint in mind.
The opening night show featured powerful songs by Princess Monique “Social Commentary Unwanted,” Karen Eccles “Genie,” Shirlane Thomas “Put Down The Gun,” Macomere Fifi “Mocking Pretender,” Abbi Blackman “Shorty I” and Trigress “Crossroads.” Sista Ava’s rendition of “Let The Manor Fall” invoked the audience in a sing along. In the party department, Imana and Kimlyn Harrinson were very exciting. Guess artiste Flo PG, Lima Calbio and Sanell Dempster were not able to perform even though they were at the Hilton. Lima and Sanell had their musicians on hand with them but they never got to share their talents with the audience. The Divas Calypso Cabaret could turn out to be a very solid tent if and when they tighten up their act.
