No condolences from cops

Relatives of Kevin Cato, who was killed at a party over the weekend, said they feel slighted by police officers as none of the investigating officers have yet visited the family’s home. According to aunt of the deceased, Merle Cato, “Kevin’s death is hurtful as it is already. It’s been three days since the officer shoot and kill Kevin at the party and up to today (Tuesday) not one officer came to Kevin’s home to give their condolences? We going to go through every channel to make sure that this officer is brought to justice.” The grieving aunt spoke to Newsday as other relatives at the deceased teenager’s home were preparing for his funeral, which takes place today. Also speaking to Newsday was Kevin’s older brother, who found it difficult to hold back the tears when speaking of his dead brother. “My brother’s death will not go unpunished.

“Kevin was not a trouble-maker and did not go to that party looking for trouble. Out of all the people they had to kill was my brother?” asked 19-year-old Keston Cato, as he held onto his aunt, Merle Cato, who was also in tears.  Asked how Kevin’s parents were doing, the eldest of the Cato children said while their mother seemed to be holding up, their father seemed to be taking Kevin’s death hard. “Right now, all daddy doing is crying. Every time Kevins name comes up, or he’s on the phone speaking to anyone who calls to pass on their condolences, daddy just breaks down and is unable to speak for a very long time. Right now I feel like he needs to be sedated to catch up on some much needed rest.” But Merle Cato strongly criticised the manner in which the police seemed to be conducting their investigations. “Look they gone in the hospital to talk to Ryan, and they make him sign a statement when he was heavily sedated. They supposed to wait until he is in a position to know what he is doing. They even went as far as to tell Ryan that Kevin dead. Telling him the bad news will only make a bad situation worse for Ryan.”
