Cop charged with illegal possession of bullet

A SAN FERNANDO City Corporation policeman who allegedly returned from patrol duties one bullet less than what was assigned to him, appeared in court yesterday charged with illegal possession of ammunition. PC Faheed Mohammed, 36, of Princes Town, appeared before Magistrate Sonia Aleong in the San Fernando Second Court. The alleged incident from which the charge stemmed is said to have occurred on June 21, while PC Mohammed was on duty and in police uniform. The charge was laid by Sgt James.

The charge alleges that PC Mohammed left the police station with 14 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and allegedly returned with 13 rounds. PC Mohammed was arrested Wednesday on a warrant following instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. He was subsequently granted $20,000 bail. PC Mohammed was represented by attorney Ian Gray. Court prosecutor Cpl Joey Samaroo informed Magistrate Aleong he would not prosecute in the matter saying he would rather have the DPP assign someone to prosecute, since the accused is a policeman. PC Mohammed reappears in court on April 6.
