Fifi: Millennium Vision a part of Vision 2020
Trincity Millennium Vision, the multi-faceted development, now picking up pace at Trincity, is Home Construction’s contribution to Vision 2020, says Michael Fifi, head of the company. He was at the time addressing a small gathering at the company’s sales office near the Trincity Mall, where he was hosting a power point presentation, extolling all the attributes of the mega project. This was followed by a site tour. Listening in were Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee, TIDCO chairman Brian Harry and visiting head of the Caribbean Tourism organisation, John Bell as well as members of the media. Fifi said Millennium Vision “was not just another housing development — it is another realm of development.” He said the new development was a growth centre in keeping with the country’s urban development plan and was part of the decentralisation process, which was started some 25 years ago.
In turn, Minister Chin Lee said, “we are very excited when we see new developments taking place. We are especially interested in hotel development and we are on the lookout for investors,” he added. Chin Lee took the opportunity to let his audience know that 2003 was the best ever year for tourist arrivals in the country. Some 400,000 arrivals were recorded. He said, “We have a vision for Trinidad and Tobago to become the business capital of the Caribbean and we are now formulating a master plan to develop tourism as well as some allied industries. Fifi said that HCL had built 10,000 homes in the last 25 years and expects to complete another 2,200. He also stated that plans are to start construction of a hotel next month, while every effort was being made to have the golf course ready by November. It is hoped to launch the 18-hole course with a PGA tournament.
