Spinner ‘Tadpole’ out Guyana match
West Indies spinner Dave “Tadpole” Mohammed will miss Trinidad and Tobago’s fifth round Carib Beer regional cricket clash against Guyana at Berbice because of injury.
Mohammed has sustained a tear to the groin and hamstring muscle. This was revealed by manager of the team Omar Khan yesterday. “Doctors are working feverishly on his injury to make sure that he is fit for the sixth round match against Jamaica,” Khan said. Originally Mohammed was selected on the squad after the victory against the Windwards on Sunday but the injury deteriorated to the point that fast bowler Theodore Modeste was called into the team to replace him.
The only other change to the team that defeated Windwards by 81 runs is batsman Daren Ganga. The West Indies opener comes in at the expense of Kenton Thompson who was in a 14-man squad for the Windwards clash. Queen’s Park opener Earnil Ryan who had two workmanlike innings of 21 and 34 against the Windwards keeps his place in the team and will be competing with Sherwin Ganga (Daren’s brother) and Aneil Kanhai for one of the batting places.
The Trinidad and Tobago team is currently second in the Carib Beer Series standings after four rounds on 36 points. They are 12 points adrift of leaders Barbados who have completed four wins in as many matches. The national team leave at 1.30 pm today for Guyana where they will take on a struggling Guyana outfit hoping to get full points in order to maintain the challenge on Barbados in a bid to win their first regional title since 1985.
TT team: Imran Jan (capt), Amit Jaggernauth, Dwayne Bravo, Aneil Kanhai, Shazam Babwah, Gibran Mohammed, Rayad Emrit, Marlon Black, Theodore Modeste, Sherwin Ganga, Rodney Sooklal, Earnil Ryan and Daren Ganga.
