Cycling great Gibbon tutors youngsters
FORMER Trinidad and Tobago and Western Hemisphere sprint cycling king Roger Gibbon came out of many years of retirement to give demonstrations to over 50 aspiring kid cylists. He was joined in the Beacon Insurance Cycle Smart Programme stint by other top local riders — Leslie Rawlins, Richard and Ronald Dickie, Clinton Grant, Elisha Grene, triathlete Jason Gooding and Michael Phillips.
The exercise was conducted at George V Park, Port-of-Spain on last Saturday. According to Phillips Promotions secretary Esmee McKell, the kids were also given valuable traffic education by Inspector Earle Gonzales and two other officers of the Port-of-Spain Traffic Branch. Also at last Saturday’s session were Mayor of Port-of- Spain Murchison Brown, UCI chief judge Brian Scarborough, Alderman Brian Ibrahim, a representative from the Ministry of Transport and Peter Polar Bear, mascot of co-sponsors Sunshine Frosted Flakes.
