No foul feathers for TT

THE EDITOR:The story “Bandleaders cry fowl” stated that band leaders are complaining that imported feathers for their 2004 Carnival costumes are being quarantined at Piarco. We must really have our priorities mixed up when we choose to complain about some quarantined feathers at the airport, when our country is in such a hopeless state of disrepair! How can band leaders ignore the fact that there is a deadly epidemic raging through Asia as we speak? Isn’t it obvious that there must be procedures in place to ensure that imported feathers are certified and inspected in the wake of the Bird Flu epidemic?

Maybe to make our band leaders happy, we should just abort these safety procedures at Piarco, and put our entire nation at risk, all for the love of Carnival. God knows we would not want to frustrate our band leaders further, and prevent them from fulfilling their true once a year potential. We may have an epidemic to add to our list of woes, but at least their creativity would not be compromised.
