Silent approval of racism and discrimination by Pentecostal leaders
THE EDITOR: It is with disgust that I listen to some radio stations and several other Pentecostal leaders who are PNM defenders and apologetics, giving their approval and support to this PNM regime who continues to display their passion for racism, discrimination, and social banishment of half of the people of this nation, all of whom are perceived to be non-PNM supporters. These PNM Pentecostal Pastors and leaders sit quietly and comfortably as they watch Manning their political messiah ruin this country, and not lift a finger. Half of this nation is brought to tears daily by the injustices of this regime. People are made to suffer because they exercised their right to support the party of their choice. They choose to be progressive and not depend on Government for hand-outs.
They choose to work hard and build their own homes, grow their own food, cherish their families and make life-long sacrifices to educate their children. I had never for one moment thought that there were so many racist and partisan Pentecostal leaders in this nation until the UNC was given the opportunity to govern the affairs of this nation in 1995. These same Pentecostal PNM apologetic leaders refused to pray for the then government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago between 1995 and 2001. Instead, they would destructively criticise the UNC administration at every move. Today there are so many reasons to lift their voices but they prefer to see this nation destroyed by the PNM. These Pentecostal leaders know very well that the last administration was cheated out of office and our country has been rolling backwards in all respects since this PNM regime came into office.
The Pentecostal leaders are reluctant to request cooperate prayer from the Church for the Government. They try to substitute the word “nation” for “government” in their prayer, in an effort to hoodwink the non-PNM Christians. They can no longer pretend that crime is not synonymous with the PNM. These partisan Pentecostal leaders pray by themselves not because it is scriptural to pray for government, but because the PNM is now in power. They pray for government only to the extent that God’s “will” does not conflict with theirs. I am not suggesting that they should support the UNC. God is not interested in UNC or PNM. God is interested in a people who would carry the reverential fear of God, be objective and dare to speak out against the blatant racism and discrimination in our nation. These Pentecostal leaders refuse to pray against the spirit of racism and discrimination, simply because they want the Government to look nice in the eyes of men.
