Manswell fights V’zuelan tomorrow
COMMONWEALTH Games light-heavyweight silver medallist Kertson Manswell will trade punches with Venezuelan Wilmer Vasquez at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, Port-of-Spain tomorrow night. Kirt Sinnette won bronze medals at the 1995 Pan Am Games and 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games and is on the comeback trail after a lapse of three years. He will fight another Venezuelan, Cruz Gil in a middleweight bout on the same night. Both fighters will be using their bouts as preparation for the Olympic Games qualifiers in Mexico mid next month. Tomorrow night’s card is being jointly promoted by Tansley Thompson and Gordon Hoyte, and will have an entrance fee of $50 for ringside and $25 general. Thompson manages Manswell who also got silver medals at both the Pan Am and Central American and Caribbean Games. He was also the manager of then world No 10 ranked middleweight David Noel and Ulric Johnson.
Following this bout, Manswell will leave for Miami to fine-tune his training, while the 29-year-old Sinnette goes off to Cuba to do the same. Apart from the fights, fans at the Carib sponsored All Included International Boxing Carnival Extravaganza will hear calypsonians and soca artistes including Poser, El King, and a top pannist, while ring girls will come from Trini Revellers Carnival presentation, Arabian Nights. Tickets go on sale at Smoky and Bunty in St James, and Mas Camp Pub, Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook.
