Montrose man gunned down
A 25-year-old Montrose man, who has matters pending in court for kidnapping, false imprisonment, firearm possession and robberies, was shot three times by masked gunmen at a building in which he was preparing to open a business shortly.
Junior Gibbons, alias Junior Wilson, died at around 1 am while in the operating theatre of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Reports revealed that around 8 pm on Thursday, Gibbons, of La Clave Street, was at a building located at Main Road, Montrose, with another man. The two were preparing the businessplace for opening shortly, when two masked gunmen alighted from a silver-grey Honda car, stormed into the building and shot Gibbons three times. He was shot in the head, the base of his neck and in the right side of his arm.
The bleeding Gibbons was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Centre and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where a team of doctors attempted to save his life. Gibbons died in the operating theatre at around 1 am yesterday. A party of officers led by Supt Fredericks, ASP Millette, Inspector Raphael, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad, Cpl Villafana, PC Alexander and others visited the scene. Several persons were interviewed.
At the Montrose home of the dead man, relatives told Newsday that the death was an execution and called on investigators to find the killers. An autopsy performed by Dr Hughvon des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with gunshot wounds. Crime scene officers returned to the scene of the shooting death yesterday and carried out a search for clues. Police officers told Newsday that Gibbons was wanted for several robberies in Central Trinidad Ag Sgt Ajith Persad is investigating the country’s 34th murder.
