Windies ‘B’ reply strongly at Enmore
GEORGETOWN: The visiting West Indies “B” reached 96 for the loss of two wickets yesterday in reply to Guyana’s 419 in their sixth-round Carib Beer Series regional cricket match.
Beginning their innings just after tea, the young Windies lost the early wicket of Ryan Ramdass for 16 with the score on 26 when he was leg before wicket to Mahendra Nagamootoo. Shawn Findlay followed, caught and bowled by Neil McGarrell for 14 with the score on 55. But Jason Haynes and Danza Hyatt repaired the damage, taking the score to 96 without further loss. Haynes was not out on 40 with six fours, while Hyatt was unbeaten on 20 with three boundaries and a six.
Earlier in the day, Guyana resumed on 266 for five and added a further 153 runs in the lunch and tea sessions. Nagamootoo and Damodar Daesrath made 58 and 56 respectively to take Guyana past the 400 mark and set the visitors a challenging total. Last man Rayon Griffith chipped in with 20. The half-centuries built on Thursday’s strong batting was led by Ramnaresh Sarwan, who made 95, and Travis Dowlin, who hit 94.
