The headlines speak for themselves

THE EDITOR: In response to your letter writer’s question posed on Saturday February 7 “Why so few Indians in the Police Force?” (armed and defence services), I would respectfully suggest that he take a look at the front page of that day’s papers; read the article on the false claim of rape also in Saturday’s papers; flash back to the article where the young man stole his parents five figure sum which was given to him to deposit and then claimed he was kidnapped and robbed; and review the ethnic identity of every false case of kidnapping that has been revealed.

I believe that that is not the entire answer, but it is a part. There is also the man who is currently facing charges for issuing fake passports, and the policeman who fled who was involved in the kidnapping of a judge’s relative. These crimes, done by what your reader claims is a disproportionate minority of Indians in essential areas of national security and defence, can only cause some people to say “thank God”! We want to be sure that our essential services are manned by people of integrity, as well as by people who put Trinidad and Tobago first. Perhaps the oath of loyalty is hard for some people to stomach. Certainly the situation needs some hard thinking on all sides.
