TT rugger men crushed at World Sevens

DESPITE losing all three of their games on day one of the Inaugural International Rugby Board World sevens series tournament in Los Angeles. the Trinidad and Tobago team remained upbeat.

The Caribbean 7s and 15s Rugby champions making their World Sevens debut never dropped their heads in the face of a 52-0 whipping at the hands of Samoa and a 50-0 defeat against England. Against the host USA, T&T with tries by Captain Adam Fredericks and winger Mark Hamilton were in the hunt at 12-12 until a handling error by Allan Fraser proved the turning point in the game as the Eagles scored. Two missed tackles one by Dale Trotman  and the other by Fraser were then punished by the Americans who ran out 31-12 victors.

TT winless on  day one finished in the cellar position in Group A and were scheduled to play third place finisher in Group C Tonga in the Shield competition on day two yesterday. Speaking from the Team Hotel yesterday morning manager Anthony Loregnard said the feeling in the camp was that they should have won the USA game but the players have put that behind them and are focusing on day two. “Quite frankly we have surprised many people here as there have been very favourable comments with regard to our courage, talent and potential. The younger players have really performed well they have not been intimidated at all.” TT are scheduled to return home at midnight tonight.
