Windies U-19 start W/Cup action
DHAKA: The West Indies Under-19s, struck by a virus outbreak in their camp, tackle Ireland in their opening game of the Youth World Cup (YWC) today at the Khulna Divisional Stadium.
The medical report yesterday from the Windies camp was a little more promising than Saturday’s story as key players Ravi Rampaul and Tishan Maraj, worst hit by the flu-like virus, were released from hospital yesterday morning and had a light training session with the squad.
Team manager Roland Sampath said a few other players were “under the weather” on the eve of the match.
Rampaul, who joined the squad in the past week from the West Indies senior team’s Test and One-Day International (ODI) tours of Southern Africa, and Maraj, had spent Saturday night in hospital for observation.
Rampaul was still bothered by a headache and Sampath said his inclusion for today’s match was “touch and go.”
West Indies squad: Dinesh Ramdin (captain), Kirk Edwards (vice-captain), Jonathan Augustus, Rishi Bachan, Lionel Baker, Assad Fudadin, Zamal Khan, Tishan Maraj, Xavier Marshall, Mervyn Matthew, Ravi Rampaul, Liam Sebastien, Lendl Simmons, Barrington Yearwood.
