New SRPs catch bandits
MINUTES after committing a robbery at a San Fernando restauarant and bar, three men were held by two newly recruited Special Reserve Police (SRP) officers attached to Mon Repos Highway Patrol on Saturday.
The suspects were placed on several identification parades and were supposed to have been charged with robbery yesterday. The two new SRPs were also commended by divisional heads for their work which led to the capture of the robbery suspects.
According to police reports, at about 4.30 pm the three men armed with cutlasses stormed Stone Wall Restaurant and Bar at Sutton Street, San Fernando, and snatched a gold bracelet valued $3,600 from the cashier. They then escaped in a car. San Fernando CID issued an All Points Bulletin (APB) and the two new SRPs — Constables Lancaster and Rampersad — who were on patrol along Solomon Hochoy Highway, spotted the bandits’ car in the vicinity of Gasparillo. The SRPs held the suspects and the stolen bracelet was recovered.
