Trini girl, 3, beaten to death in Brooklyn

A three-year-old girl, the daughter of a Trinidad national, was beaten to death during a sleepover at her father’s apartment in Brooklyn, last Saturday night.

Police revealed that Shanice Williams was hit so fiercely that she had injuries to her chest, cuts in her liver and bruises in her intestines. Police arrested her father, Rodney Lewis, and charged him with second-degree murder, manslaughter and child endangerment.

Shanice died at St Mary’s Hospital at 11:45 pm, roughly an hour after she lost consciousness inside her father’s apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Lewis, 41, told police that his daughter vomited then passed out after he cleaned her up — a story that didn’t add up for detectives probing the girl’s death.

Lewis was a fixture at the fourth-floor studio that Shanice and her mother shared at 1147 Dean Street. Shanice’s mother, Michelle, who is from Trinidad, works as a cashier at a Pathmark, nine blocks from her home. She was not at Lewis’ home when Shanice lost consciousness Saturday. Shanice would have turned four years old in three weeks.
