Chamber calls for good sense in fishing dispute

The Greater Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce yesterday implored the TT Government to engage in diplomatic and harmonious negotiations with the Barbados government on the ongoing fishing dispute. In a release, the Chamber expressed its regret that the flying fish dispute has resulted in the issuing of licences for goods leaving and arriving in Barbados.

“The Government of TT,” it said, “must negotiate in the best interest of its citizens and not be intimidated by threats from another country. “The Chamber would like to bear light on the fact that any additional cost will fall to the consumer and will therefore hurt both parties,” it added. According to the release, it is the Chamber’s belief that through diplomacy and good sense, a speedy resolution would be achieved so that both countries could go forward together.
