Windies ‘B’ face uphill task against Windwards
ST GEORGE’S: With the Windward Islands holding a 230-run first inning lead, the West Indies “B” team struggled to 175 for six yesterday in their seventh-round Carib Beer Series regional cricket match. The Windies need 56 more runs to force the Windwards to bat again. The Windwards made 427 in their first innings, while the “B” team replied with 197. Yesterday’s play began with the Windward Islands resuming on 292 for five. They took the score to 427 all out before lunch, with captain Rawl Lewis posting 45 before being bowled by Dwight Washington. Darren Sammy was then joined at the crease by wicketkeeper Lyndon James, and the two put on a seventh-wicket partnership worth 83 before Sammy was trapped leg before wicket to Kenroy Williams for 61.
Sixteen runs later, James was caught by Jason Haynes off the bowling of Denis George for 36, before Deighton Butler was caught by Washington off the bowling of Williams for three. The Windwards innings ended at 427, when Fernix Thomas forced Shane Shillingford to take a second run, and Shillingford was run out for 12. The Windies began their second innings just after lunch, losing Haynes for 13, Ryan Ramdass for 21, Findlay on 25, Hyatt on 20, Austin Richards on 59 and Gregory Mahabir on 16. Not out were Kenroy Williams, on 12, and Ryan Austin, on nought.
