Harsh treatment of Trinis
THE EDITOR: I am a US citizen and married to a Trinbagonian. I love the country of TT and proudly call it my second home. Our son even has dual citizenship and loves visiting TT during Christmas to see his grandparents and other family members. I read your newspaper online regularly and was outraged to read about the young lady (Ms Jobity) who was detained and deported back to TT for no reason.
The harsh, cruel and unnecessary treatment of this young lady is inexcusable and needs to be rectified. She is not a criminal nor a terrorist! Even if she was being held for questioning (although, I can’t figure out why), the handcuffing her to a chair went over the line! Not only her, but four other women were treated the same way! The woman who was on her way to vacation with her daughter should not have been treated as such (verbally and physically). This is an outrage and I am disgusted with the way the US Immigration conducted themselves. I demand an investigation into this matter! The TT Government along with the US Embassy in Trinidad should investigate this matter thoroughly. If I could represent the US, I would humbly apologise to Ms Jobity and the other ladies who were treated so harshly. If this is allowed to continue, relations between the US and TT will crumble. I, for one, would not want that to happen.
