Only eight races on Saturday

Punters will have eight races to wager on at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday as the Arima Race Club grappled yesterday for entries in two events. From the customary ten events, the West Indian bred four-year-olds and over non-winners of three races, framed over 1300 metres; and the Stakes and Lower Handicap, the intended highlight on the day five programme, were cancelled. This was after they failed to meet minimum entry requirements at yesterday’s entry and declaration stage.

The extended sprint for West Indian bred animals attracted a measly three runners, while the 1200 metres sprint which catered for both West Indian and Imported three-year-olds and over mustered only four names. The West Indian bred three-year-old framed as the supporting highlight have now been given feature status on Saturday’s programme. The event worth $22,000 in stakes will see seven aspiring classic contenders going over a distance of ground for the first time this season. Mucho Tempo, who has played bridesmaid in all three events he faced the starter is among the list of budding stars in the 1750 metres event. Also pencilled in the interesting affair, their first around two turns are winners Privilege, Second Chances and Trini To D Bone.
