Autopsy reveals mom died of brain injury

An autopsy carried out on the body of mother of seven, Routie Bishunath, revealed that death was due to an injury to the brain. The body of Bishunath, 51, was seized on Sunday night after relatives approached the police and asked that an autopsy be carried out on her body. Her death was listed as a stroke, but relatives were not convinced. Bishunath died on Sunday at the La Vida Nursing home in Felicity. Her funeral was listed for Monday, but due to the seizure of the body, the cremation was moved to today.

Police investigators told Newsday that based on the autopsy result, they will be carrying out further investigations and will soon be making a decision on the matter. Bishunath of Esmerald Road, Cunupia, was allegedly the victim of domestic violence on May 25 last year. She was treated at the Intensive Care Unit at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for four months and then moved to the nursing home at Felicity. On Sunday, around 10 am, Bishunath died at the nursing home. A party of officers led by Inspector Burt Raphael, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and including Cpl Salick, Viorreul and PC James carried out extensive investigations and interviewed several persons. Relatives of the dead woman insisted yesterday that her death was not natural and they are calling on the police to step up investigations so that justice will be served.
