Man on $75,000 bail for Jouvert rape of teen
A 19-YEAR-OLD man charged with the Jouvert morning rape of a 17-year-old girl was yesterday granted $75,000 bail by a San Fernando magistrate. The man appeared before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the First Court to answer the indictable charge which was laid by PC Hugh Elbourne of San Fernando CID. Cpl Wendell Fernando was the court prosecutor.
The incident is alleged to have occurred on Carnival Monday morning after the teenaged victim of Princes Town accepted a car ride in the San Fernando area. After the assault, a report was made to San Fernando CID and PC Elbourne conducted investigations. The man was arrested later that day. Another suspect is being sought by police. The case was adjourned to March 5.
