Indians crush WI women cricketers
TATANAGA: India crushed West Indies by 105 runs in their first Women’s One-Day International (ODI) on Thursday, to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match cricket series. Batting first, India scored a robust 298 for two off their 50 overs, and the West Indies replied with 193 all out in the final over. Jata Sharma (97), Anju Jain (67), Mitali Raj (56) and Anjum Chopra (55) led the Indians’ scoring and the Caribbean side never threatened the target. Nadine George (53), captain Stephanie Power (28), and Verena Felicien (27) were the top scorers for the West Indies, while Nitu David (4/21) did most of the damage for India.
The West Indies, prior to the match, had logged a 1-1 record from their two warm-up matches. They defeated an Indian Board XI by two wickets after going down by six wickets to India “A,” although George (54), Nellie Williams (54) scored well. The second ODI will be played tomorrow.
