Mohammed spins PowerGen into final
WEST INDIES left-arm spinner Dave “Tadpole” Mohammed grabbed six wickets for 21 runs to bowl PowerGen to a 96-run victory over FCB Clarke Road in their semi-final of the Carib Sunday League at Gilbert Park, Couva yesterday. And PowerGen will now meet Alescon Comets who defeated W Connection Wanderers by 22 runs in the other semi-final in the grand finale at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, on April 17. PowerGen won the toss and totalled 244 runs for eight wickets off 48 overs, with national coach David Williams top-scoring with 71, while Samuel Badree contributed 69 and ex-Trinidad and Tobago Under-15 captain Jason Mohammed 48.
Clarke Road then found the going very tough at the crease and were bowled out for 148 in 42.3 overs. Mohammed was later named Man of the Match. Jason Mohammed took 2/16. At Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, rain reduced the match between Comets and Wanderers to 39-over-per-side. Comets struggled to 160 for nine wickets with Suruj Ragoonath topscoring with 46 and Anil Balliram scoring 36, while national captain Daren Ganga was dismissed by team-mate Theodore Modeste for a duck. Spinner Sanjeev Gooljar took three wickets for seven runs and Modeste got three for 25. Wanderers only managed 136 in reply, despite Joel Pamphille’s 50, which included five fours. Dinanath Ramnarine took 2/21, Rajendra Mangallie 2/22, Nicholas Ramjass took 3/21. Man of the Match was Balliram who captured 2/13.
