Ivor Grazette in Public Courts final

NATIONAL champ Ivor Grazette progressed to the final of the Men’s “A” Division at the 21st annual Public Courts Open Classified Tennis Championships yesterday.

Facing Michael Cooper at the Public Courts, Princess Building Grounds, the 29-year-old Grazette stormed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Grazette may face his brother Winnington in the final, with the younger Grazette scheduled to face Harry Mahase in the other “semi” today. Lendl Smith booked a spot in the Men’s “B” Division final after a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 win over Noah Haynes while another Grazette, Dayna, advanced to Women’s “A” semi-finals after her opponent Jeneice Ward retired with cramps.

Dayna was leading 4-0 in the first set when Ward called it quits and will face off against Vanessa Lee Foon today. Today’s men’s veterans “semis” will see Michael Cooper oppose Ivor Jack while Swaran Maharaj will do battle against Athelstan Phillips. Phillips took care of Jim Young Jung 6-3, 6-1 in yesterday’s quarter-finals.
