Levine overtakes Baynes for Open golf lead

TREVOR LEVINE overtook Carlos “Sexy” Baynes for the lead in the Men’s Championship Division at the end of the second day of the 97th annual Trinidad and Tobago Golf Open Championships yesterday.

The St Kitts golfer, who started the day in second spot with 73, carded an even-par-72 for a score of 145. But Baynes, who shot 72 on Thursday, had a miserable round of four-over-par 76 to drop to second spot with 148. Taking a look at the overall scoreboard, it seems certain that Levine and Baynes, who have won the title on numerous occasions, will go neck and neck to cop the vacant title.

John Streibech of the US Virgin Islands, the 2003 winner is absent from the tournament due to academic reasons. In third spot is Robert Llanos, who had a good round of 73 on the greens, for a two-day score of 150, while five other local golfers Patrick Boocock, Simon Merry, Mitchum Jasper, Corey Hamel-Smith and Shane Costelloe are tied for fourth with 152. Douglas Ammon, like Levine, returned an even-par round yesterday, and will resume this morning on ninth place with 152 with Dion Gonsalves 153 and the Barbadian pair of Carlsen Leacock and TT-born Scott Stollmeyer on 155.
