THE SANCTITY OF SEX
God created the woman’s virginity for a deeply significant spiritual purpose. The hymen was constructed by the Lord to be broken by the husband in marriage. When this happens, blood flows. A blood covenant is then cut between bride and groom “till death do us part.”
It is quite evident that a large part of the social and moral ills we face on a global scale is directly related to perversion of human sexuality. This perversion has its roots in the many versions given by various sources as the “real purpose” of human sexuality.
Everyone wants to contradict, criticise, condemn or “improvise” upon the original version provided by the Creator of the human being and his/her sexuality. It’s in fact a direct attack against the sanctity of sexual intercourse, which the Creator equates with life itself. God designed sex primarily for procreation — the reproduction of life. It was meant to be treated as a very holy and deeply revered item, strictly reserved for the sacred institution of marriage. The sexual union between a man and a woman was designed to be the initial act of covenant bonding: “They two shall be one flesh” (Eph 5:31). In the same verse, the Apostle Paul also likens the marriage union to the blood covenant relationship between Christ and His church.
Nevertheless, on a daily basis, we are forced to contend with the radically diabolical “versions” of Hollywood, cable television, Playboy, “liberal thinkers,” the porn industry, the gay rights movement, secular “sex experts,” Carnival, and of course, the regular world of commerce — the “sex sells” philosophy. When sanctity is removed, the door becomes wide open for abuse and perversion. This is quite manifestly the case with human sexuality. Where sanctity of purpose is absent, perversion is inevitable. But, as we also witness with horror each passing day, abuse and perversion carry a heavy price. The consequences are dire and deadly. The sex-related ills of our present-day society are like a horror movie turned real. It is now a common thing for pre-teens to be sexually active. Not only are they active, but a sizeable number of them are, in certain ways, even more versed in the art than adults! It is no secret that global statistics on juvenile sexual activity are not only disturbing, but literally horrifying. Sexually active teens have now largely become an accepted norm. The experts tell them, “If it feels good, do it.” And they audaciously back their doctrine by advocating the distribution of condoms to schoolchildren.
The vulnerable tots and teens prematurely see themselves as adults. They therefore become rebellious and disrespectful to authority. A host of other problems naturally follows, including rampant indiscipline, violence, sexually transmitted diseases — AIDS and company — teenage pregnancy, broken homes, crime, drugs... and you name it. Evidently, when sanctity disappears, sanity and sobriety also vanish. It’s a mad, mad world! “Adult TV,” and “adult language” are now more part of the children’s world than that of adults themselves. “First world” nations are rushing to legalise same-sex marriage and it has now become fashionable for gays and lesbians to French kiss in public. Being a virgin has become a laughing matter. How many of our young ladies, or young men, know about the sanctity of virginity? I can assure you, it’s very few. God created the woman’s virginity, for a deeply significant spiritual purpose. The woman’s virginity, and by whom it is broken, is a major matter in the sight of the God who created it. The hymen was constructed by the Lord to be broken by the husband in marriage. When this happens, blood flows. A blood covenant is then cut between bride and groom and the marriage is consumated. The two then “become one” in a bonded union “till death do us part.”
A loss of virginity before marriage therefore means the very costly loss of all of these rich, divine benefits. God regards these matters very seriously. Hence, in the Old Testament, when the commandments governing human sexuality were violated, the offence was treated as the ultimate crime against life. The penalty was the ultimate — death. Somebody said that this penalty may still be in force today. It’s called STDs. Since man is primarily a sexual being, the impact of all of this weighs heavily upon the youth in particular. “An identity crisis,” for instance, is one of the major challenges the youth faces. According to noted psychoanalysts, this is usually experienced in the adolescent stage of development. With this also comes a deep craving for acceptance.
In the puberty and adolescent period, the reproductive processes mature and other changes take place. These will include physical, cognitive functioning, social interactions, emotions and the sense of self, or “ego identity.” During this transitional period there is emotional turmoil and the peculiar state where the individual develops the body of an adult but the mind of a child. New demands are now placed upon the youth to find a career. This is compounded by the pressures from peers and other social factors, along with the urges to enter into the intimacy of sexual relationships. In such a highly vulnerable atmosphere, unambiguous emphasis on the sanctity of sex becomes an imperative necessity.
