Ganpath wins at Aqueduct
NEW YORK: Trinidadian jockey Raymond Ganpath scored a win at the Aqueduct race track last Friday when he guided the four-year-old colt Heneresa to victory in the seventh race at the famous New York track. The six-furlong sprint, worth US$17,000, was run in foggy conditions but Ganpath used his horse’s good speed to win by 5-3/4 lengths for trainer Allen Jerkens. Ganpath, who has been attached to the Jerkens barn as a stable rider for more than three years, was winning his second race astride Heneresa of the current Aqueduct season.
Heneresa, who won for Ganpath on February 13, showed good early speed and accelerated in the stretch — when urged by the Caribbean rider — to score a victory in one minute 10.62 seconds. Ganpath had his biggest success since arriving in the USA last October, when he won the US$500,000 Frizette Stakes aboard Society Selection at Belmont for Jerkens.
