Bring back the train
THE EDITOR: Road fatality has now become one of our major problems as almost everyday some one is killed. The road is no longer safe, especially for the elderly who now form according to the latest statistics the largest section of our population and when you add the children and handicapped it becomes almost 80 percent of the population.
It is therefore the duty of a caring government to cater for the safety of this section. Our roads cannot support TT’s voluminous number of vehicles. Our Commissioner of Transport must clear the roads. In my humble opinion the cheap second hand vehicles dumped by America and Japan must be tackled. There is now a craze by our youngsters to own a vehicle as their first priority; some homes have as many as five cars. Our only solution to this problem is to bring back the train. In most advanced countries the train is the chief means of travel; they even use underground trains. Let us follow their example and solve our problem.
