Capt Burrell to launch HCU Futsal
CONCACAF president Jack Austin Warner has invited Captain Horace Burrell to make his first official appearance today, since being appointed head of the Caribbean Football Union’s marketing division at the launch of the Hindu Credit Union’s sponsorship for the forthcoming regional Futsal qualifiers. Burrell, the former president of the Jamaica Football Federation and Warner were in attendance at the launch of the CFU marketing division office in Kingston on Saturday and will be at the HCU’s office in Chaguanas today. The company has decided to throw in their lot with CONCACAF for the seven-a-side Futsal qualifiers to be played here next month.
Warner, also president of the Caribbean Football Union, speaking at the CFU’s 25th anniversary celebrations at the Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, on Sunday, called on the region to look ahead to the future with great anticipation. But he advised members to look back closely at all the trials and tribulations which preceded the union during their 25 years of existence. Warner, paying tribute to the late Andre Kamperveen of Suriname, the CFU’s first president said: “It is necessary to know of our past and of those men who worked to bring the CFU to what it is today after some 25 years.”
Warner called Kamperveen the “Father of this Union,” went on to relate the life of the Surinamese. He said: “I ask all of you this evening to become an Andre Kamperveeen to the Union , in your own way. He called on the CFU members to get rid of all conflicts, as “this robs us of the will to achieve.” Warner said the CFU should not fall into the trap of our political leaders and for the next 25 years should strive to be an example to the Caribbean.
