Arch-rivals in ‘Diego’ cricket showdown

Ceramic Trinidad Merryboys will oppose FCB Clarke Road as matches in the second round of the Carib National League Division One series comes off today at venues across the country. Both teams ended their first round encounters winning on first innings, with Merryboys getting the better of Clico Preysal and Clarke Road taking care of PowerGen. A large crowd is expected at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground to watch the match between  the arch-rivals. The only outright winners in the first round, Tile It Central Sports will start as favourites against Couva Sports at Presentation College, Chaguanas.

Couva Sports lost on first innings to Queen’s Park in their opening fixture of the series and will be looking to bounce back against their central opponents. They are counting on veteran Deonarine Deyal to get them off to a good start with support from Allan Ramroop in the middle of the innings. While the Tilemen are boosted by an array of young talent, they will be depending heavily on the seasoned Guyana professional Lennox Cush to show the way to another win. Last weekend, they created a major upset by taking care of Alescon Comet by nine wickets at Pierre Road, Charlieville. Comet are still licking their wounds after two defeats at the hands of Tile It Central Sports over the past week and will oppose a Queen’s Park outfit with Dwayne Bravo and Mervyn Dillon on roster.

This is expected to be a very exciting clash as West Indies batsman Daren Ganga, former Test leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine and Test opener Suruj Ragoonath will line up for Comet. Guyanese fast bowler Rayon Griffith is also in Comets plan for this weekend. In Division Two, favourites Wanderers will play away to Mayo at Union Hall, while Munroe Road who whipped Green Arrow last week will play Las Lomas.
