On campus Wednesday March, 10
THE EDITOR: Dear Sir, Open letter to Dr Bhoendradath Tewarie. I would like to draw your attention to an incident which took place at an office on the St Augustine Campus on Wednesday March 10, 2004. The whole incident is being blown out of proportion, thanks to one of your female employees, who didn’t hesitate to inform those who witnessed the incident, that she would do whatever it takes if it means telling lies together with her outrageous behaviour to ‘sink’ her husband and his family.
The young man apparently served her with an injunction and was on his way out. Whilst doing so she read the paper given to her, after reading it, she started to hurl abusive language at him, I could not believe that such colourful language could come out of this young woman’s mouth. By this time the young man started to run until he saw a UWI Security Officer. He explained the situation, but after our employee used lies to get sympathy she insisted that he be arrested. Our Security having taken these instructions from her, called the St Joseph Police. Ironically, the young man was charged instead for obscene language and so the matter is to be heard in the Tunapuna Court this week.
Surely, Mr Tewarie, at a time when the UWI Security is much to be desired, one asks the question; “Why did two Security vehicles and six Security Officers have to escort this employee, who has proved to be a disgrace to UWI, to the St Joseph Police Station? Why did the Security Supervisors allow valuable and limited resources to be wasted for over two hours over such a minor incident! One wonders if the whole fleet of security officers would be instructed to protect a rape victim! Mr Tewarie, the Security personnel need to get their act together if your vision for UWI is to become a reality. I therefore plead with you to launch an urgent investigation into what really happened and submit your findings to the relevant authorities to prove the innocence of this young man.
We cannot allow this woman to use UWI as her bodyguard especially when it is used vindictively. The performance and attendance of this woman need to be checked as well as her mental health. After witnessing her behaviour, the staff members are running scared and are afraid to speak because she says she has contacts and she has a few colleagues who will do anything she asks them to do even if they have to lie as well.
