Boynes, Raphael meet on Hampton

SPORTS Minister Roger Boynes and Hampton Athletic Club chairman Rawle Raphael has a meeting scheduled for next week, to discuss subventions for this year’s 30th edition of Hampton International Games. Entries for the games which takes place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on May 1 and 2,  closed at Raphael’s offices, Tragarete Road, Woodbrook, on Monday.

But on April 11 (Easter Sunday), Hampton will put over $8,000 at stake when they host a Relay Festival around the Queen’s Park Savannah, starting opposite the Botanical Gardens from 4 pm. Winners of the relays will pocket $500, the runners-up $300 and third $200, while winners of flat events get $300, runners-up $200 and third $100. Relays will be run off for boys and girls under-17; women open; masters (over-40) and women masters (over-40). There will also be a one-lap race walking event for men and women on the day. Each relay team will have to pay a fee of $50, while for flat events, athletes must pay $10 each up to April 8.
