Battle for cycling spots at Skinner Park
A FIERCE battle is anticipated between the top sprint cyclists for places in the national team for this year’s Southern Games and the Beacon series. And this weekend’s ride at Skinner Park in the keep fit meet starting 3 pm today, would decide. Already, Elisha Greene has cemented his position on the team after wining the sprints last weekend. But brothers Azikwe and Ako Kellar and Ray Phillips are in a keen contest for places. Azikwe has so far produced the fastest sprint time of the season when he pedalled to 11.80, and this was followed by Phillips with an 11.81 timing. So Ako Kellar must step up this weekend if he is to gain the selector’s nod. Both Ako and Phillips have won bunch races and must again win in this category to keep in contention.
