QRC b-ballers shock champions ‘Tranquil’

Queen’S Royal College (QRC) may have set themselves up as the NGC/Express Schools Basketball League North Zone Under-20 champions after they scored a shock 51-43 win over defending title-holders Tranquillity Government Secondary on Thursday. After leading 29-22 at the half, QRC through the match-high performance of Lori Adams, who returned 17 points and Jared Sampson with 16 points, applied the second half pressure on  Tranquillity who seemed a shadow of the team which won all competitions zonal, national and post-season. Tranquillity had Kern Edwards with 16 points and Che Edwards on the card but despite their best efforts they could not wrest the all important play-off match from QRC’s grip at the St Paul’s Street Gymnasium in Port-of-Spain.

The earlier match which was the last of the regular season and saw St Anthony’s College squeeze Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive 76-70 on merit of 34 points from Anton Francis, Jabari Phillips’ 17 and ten from Imo Williams. St Anthony’s were carded to play Malick Secondary yesterday to start to their Under-17 playoff campaign and the match against rugged Mucurapo was a much needed morale booster. Mucurapo’s main aggressors were Kerry McMillan with 32 and Kensley Sandy who scored 18.
