Under-19 stars to face Englishmen

ST JOHN’S: Promising West Indies Under-19 players Ravi Rampaul, Denesh Ramdin, and Xavier Marshall have been named in the Carib Beer XI to face touring England in a three-day match next weekend. Rampaul is the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) 2003 “Youth Player of the Year,” Ramdin was captain of the West Indies team to the recent Youth World Cup (YWC) in Bangladesh, and Marshall led the Caribbean side’s batting at the YWC with 331 runs at an average of 47.28.

The squad, which will be led by Daren Ganga, also includes Omari Banks and Jermaine Lawson, both trying to revive their international careers. Banks, the off-spinning all rounder from Anguilla, was forced to abort his Africa tour with the West Indies because of a back injury, and Lawson is on the comeback trail, after a back injury and a report to the ICC for throwing stalled his career last year. Roland Sampath has been appointed as manager and Roddy Estwick as coach of the Carib Beer XI for the March 26-28 match at the 3Ws Oval at the University’s Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

Squad: Daren Ganga (captain), Xavier Marshall, Sylvester Joseph, Tonito Willett, Dwayne Bravo, Omari Banks, Denesh Ramdin, Dave Mohammed, Ravi Rampaul, Fernix Thomas, Dwight Washington, Jermaine Lawson. (CMC)
