Edwards slams fifth goal for Wrexham

LONDON: Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Carlos Edwards continued his good form in the English Second Division as he fired in his fifth goal of the season to help his Wrexham side to a 3-2 victory over Swindon. In the 54th minute, Edwards met a Chris Llewellyn cross with a firm rising shot that gave goalkeeper Rhys Evans no chance. Defender Dennis Lawerence played the full 90 minutes as the win pushed Wrexham to 10th place, three points off the final promotion playoff spot.

The much publicised training ground bust up between Dwight Yorke and manager Graeme Souness in midweek seemed to have a negative effect on the former national striker’s playing time as he was an unused substitute in Blackburn’s 2-0 win over his former club Aston Villa. At the Riverside Stadium, time seems to be running out on Stern John in his bid to assure himself of a contract extension with Birmingham City as they lost an eight goal triller 5-3 (half time 4-2) at Middlesborough. John was a half-time substitute but failed to manage a single shot on goal, as his team saw their Champions League hopes suffer another blow. In the First Division, national goalkeeper Clayton Ince produced another fine display at Gretsy Road but

Crewe still lost 1-0 to Cardiff City with the goal coming via the own goal route. In the Scottish Premier League, Jason Scotland was a 74th minute substitute, but his services were not really needed for Dundee United as they had already scored all their goals in their 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock. Also in Scotland, 90 minutes of heroics from Dundee defender Brent Sancho could not stop Rangers from hammering his side 4-0 at Ibrox.
