Barbados Day at Woodbine soon
BARBADOS could soon have their day of horse racing in Canada with the country’s top jockeys competing against their Canadian counterparts. This was revealed by managing director of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, Louis Cauz, at the Garrison Savannah, recently, after watching Canadian horse Kathir’s victory in the Sandy Lane Gold Cup. Already Trinidad and Tobago have celebrated their second edition of a racing day at Pontefract, England, which was attended by Betting Levy Board chairman Roop Chan Chadeesingh and
Arima Race Club president Gerard Ferreira.
Cauz said: “I am trying to arrange a Barbados Day at Woodbine where we would have a competition between the top Canadian jockeys, led by Todd Kabel, and a team from Barbados, led by Patrick Husbands.” The Barbados Day is being planned for either July or August this year. Cauz, who is also the historian and archivist at the Woodbine race track, said his plan was partly inspired by the Patrick Husbands Day at the Garrison in January, when Canadian jockeys were brought in.
