West Indies women beat Pakistan in day-nighter

KARACHI: West Indies women took a 2-0 lead in their seven-match One-Day International (ODI) cricket series against Pakistan when they won the second match, a day/night fixture, by 60 runs at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium on Tuesday. Electing to bat, West Indies posted 194 all out off 49.5 overs, and Pakistan replied with 134 all out off 43.5 overs. In form left-hander Nadine George led the West Indies batting with 44, and Verena Felician, who made the second highest score 26, completed a fine allround game by capturing three for 23 off seven overs with her off-spin. West Indies, who had won the first match on Sunday by seven wickets, got a solid 73-run opening stand from George and Nelly Williams (20).

Number three batter Juliana Nero also contributed 20, and the top four — including Felicien — did best against match MVP Urooj Mumtaz Khan, who picked up five for 33 off 10 overs. Kiran Baluch, who scored a women’s world Test record 242 in last week’s one-off Test match between the two teams, top-scored in Pakistan’s reply with 34. Batool Fatimah Naqvi (24) and Sajjida Shah (23) also made useful contributions, but Felicien, Envis Williams (2-16) and Phillipa Thomas (2-30) restricted their scoring. The third match of the series will be played today. (CMC)
