Collymore leads TT swimmers

TOP local swim mermaid Ayeisha Collymore will rank as Trinidad and Tobago’s leading medal hopeful at the 2004 CARIFTA Swimming Championships. A 30-member national contingent was announced on Tuesday for the three-day event, scheduled to take place from April 16-18 in Nassau, Bahamas. Collymore is expected to return home with a bag of medals following her performances at the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) Short Course Championships at the Flying Fish Pool, Federation Park. During the five-day meet Collymore, who will compete in the 15-17 age group, was victorious in the 200-metre butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.


Younger sister Kimba, Janine Kimberly Thornhill and Shannon Duval, who all excelled at the Short Course meeting, are TT’s other leading prospects at the annual event. The team, which was approved at the ASATT Council meeting on Monday, will have as its head coach Paul Newallo with ASATT president Hazel Haynes, Edmund Pouchet and Edward Tuberoso as his assistants, while Vilma Cropper will serve as manager. And the squad will also have eleven reserves — Shantal Ali, Camille Brown, Zahra De Four, Stuart Gillette, Nathania La Pierre, Alexandria Lewis, Rai Ann McCarthy, Ryan Percy, Joseph Ryan, Vincent Tardieu and Ikenna Ward.
