Edwards back for third Test
BRIDGETOWN: Express fast bowler Fidel Edwards returns from injury to boost the West Indies squad for this week’s third cricket Test against England, cricket officials said yesterday in naming the 14-member squad. The West Indies trail 0-2 in the four-match Cable and Wireless series. The third Test, in Barbados, begins on Thursday. The 22-year-old Edwards was clocking more than 90 mph in the first Test in Jamaica, but injured his back during the match and was forced to miss the second Test in Trinidad.
Opener Devon Smith broke his left thumb while practising Wednesday in his home country of Grenada, said Lennox John, president of the Windward Islands Cricket Board. He is unlikely to play in the third Test but could still make it to the fourth beginning April 10 in Antigua, John said. Smith is the only West Indies player to score a century during the four-Test series with England, recording his maiden century during the first Test in Jamaica. The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) included Smith in the lineup, however, with Daren Ganga added as cover.
