Queen’s Park lash 470/6 against Preysal

WEST INDIES Under-19 batsman Jonathan Augustus struck an unbeaten 150 to lead a Queen’s Park batting spree against CLICO Preysal on the first day of  their third round Carib National Cricket League Division One clash at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal. Queen’s Park after winning the toss, excited the crowd with a barrage of boundaries in reaching 470 for six wickets by the close. Augustus played an excellent hand but was outshone by Ricardo Powell who blitz 79. Also among the runs were Samuel Felix who also struck 79, Earnil Ryan 69 and former WI fast bowler Mervyn Dillon who got 44. Across at Couva, the visiting team Alescon Comets led by 156 from former national player Anil Balliram totalled 300 for seven wickets declared against Transbrokerage Couva Sports.


Balliram was in imperious form and took advantage of the season’s newcomers. Lending good support was Imran Khan with 38. Batting was also the order of the day at Syne Village, Penal, where Ceramic Trinidad Merryboys ended the day on 340 for nine wickets against PowerGen. Windies U-19 batsman Lendl Simmons struck 109 to lead the run splurge, while Richard Kelly was unbeaten on 99. Offspinner Amit Jaggernauth was the best of the bowlers for the PowerGen outfit with four for 91, while national teammate Sherwin Ganga grabbed three for 13.


At Presentation College, Chaguanas the top of the table clash between Tile It Central Sports and FCB Clarke Road was evenly poised at the end of day one. Clarke Road were bowled out for 243 and so far, Tile It Central Sports have replied with 60 for one wicket, with Virender Maharaj unbeaten on 33. Kenton Thompson scored 60 for Clarke Road, as Kieron Lynch took four wickets for 41 runs, and Guyanese off-spinner Lennox Cush two for 41.
