TT footballers face Egypt in Cairo
STERN JOHN and Cornell Glenn will lead the Trinidad and Tobago attack in today’s friendly international against Egypt at the Arab Contractors Stadium, Cairo. Kick-off is 1.15 pm TT time. After a warm-up match against Wadi Degla FC yesterday morning coach Bertille St Clair said he would use both John and Glenn up front, a back-four of recalled Anthony Rougier, Brent Sancho, Marvin “Dog” Andrews and Dennis Lawrence with Shaka Hislop in goal. A crowd of 25,000 fans are expected to see today’s game, which will be beamed live on Egyptian television and other parts of Africa on Nile Television Network. St Clair said yesterday: “This is our first time playing Egypt and we are very much looking forward to the game.
“We know the Egyptians are quick passers of the ball and they run off it pretty well, so we have to find ways of countering them and I expect the game should be of a good quality.” He continued: “You come this far obviously to get a good result. We will be testing our ability against the better teams because we need to get things right before the World Cup campaign starts.” Veteran goalkeeper Hislop is pleased with the team’s morale in the northern African country. “To have a successful team you need that camaraderie off the pitch which we certainly have,” he said.
