Wanderers are Guillen U-21 champs

W CONNECTION Wanderers held their nerve at the end of their innings to take a nail-biting eight-run victory over Tile It Central Sports and the Noel Guillen Under-21 Cricket title at the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday.

Scores: W CONNECTION WANDERERS 204/6.  TILE IT CENTRAL SPORTS 196. Tile It Central Sports chasing Wanderers total of 204 in 30 overs, were well placed on 138 for two wickets but fell apart at the fall of Guyanese Derwyn Christian’s wicket. Christian with 65 and Varindra Maharaj 42 batted superbly to take Central Sports pass the 100-run mark with only two wickets down. However when Christian fell after hitting six fours and one six and Maharaj was run out for 42,  the wheels fell off and despite a fighting 22 from skipper Satish Naidoo, Central Sports fell short. Their running between the wicket left a lot to be desired as five batsmen were run out in their innings, including three by Man of the Match Andre Brown. Earlier Wanderers got to their total behind an enterprising 71 from another Guyanese, Looknath Ramsuchit, Rakesh Ramkissoon chipped in with 40 and William Perkins 24.

Summarised scores: W CONNECTION WANDERERS 204/6 (30 overs) - Ramsuchit 71, R Ramkissoon 40, W Perkins 24, Ancil Bhaggan 3/25 vs  TILE IT CENTRAL SPORTS 196 (39.2 overs) - Kapil Harry 25, V Maharaj 42, D Christian 65, S Naidoo 22, Videsh Maraj 2/32, Afzal Dean 2/41.
