‘Action’ Jackson slams 96 for Clico Preysal

HARD hitting Andy Jackson produced another memorable innings yesterday to put Clico Preysal in a strong postion when the Carib Shield 30-overs cricket quarter-finals got underway. The former national middle-order batsman crashed 96 on his home ground at Inshan Ali Park as Preysal rattled up 232 all out against PowerGen Sports Club. He got valuable support from former star junior player Aaron Ragoonath who hit a useful 61. Ferel Jagmohan took three for 47 and was the best of the Syne Village bowlers. Also producing a potential match-winning score yesterday was Trinidad Ceramic Merryboys who got 218 for seven playing at home in Diego Martin against Alescon Comet of Charlieville, Chaguanas.


Tobago’s Lincoln Roberts, who played one Test match for the West Indies, paved the way with a splendid knock of  68 and national batsman Aniel Kanhan chipped in with 46. Former Test off-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine, now president of the West Indies Players’ Association showed he has not lost his mesmerising qualities with the ball grabbing four wickets for 42 runs for Alescon Comet. At Presentation College, Chaguanas, Tile It Central Sports were made to struggle against Queen’s Park Cricket Club. Batting first Central Sports rallied to 176 for six wickets with solid knocks from Derwin Christian (65) and Virender Maharaj (58). For the Parkites, star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo had figures of two wickets for 39 runs.


And in the other match-up of the day, W Connection Wanderers gave a fighting performance to reach 182 for eight at their Gilbert Park, California ground against FCB Clarke Road United of  Penal. Mahadeo Bodoe spun out three Wanderers batsmen for 26 and Mukesh Persad trumped in with three for 37 as Narine Bedeshi (68) was the only Wanderers batsman to offer any resistance to the spin onslaught. Matches end today.
