T&T Pro League get $2m, new CEO

EX-NATIONAL striker Dexter Skeene is the new chief executive officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League. His appointment to this position was announced by T&T Pro League chairman Larry Romany yesterday. Skeene who is current director of Skeene/Hyacenth Football Institute, was coach of the national women from 1996-98. A Bachelor of Arts (economics) graduate of Colombia University after leaving St Mary’s College, Skeene earned selection to the Senior Bowl, was named to the All-American and All Ivy League teams. Also yesterday, the T&T Pro League received a $2 million cheque from the Ministry of Sport, who also gave the National Amateur Association (NAAA) another cheque for $193,368. Sports Minister Roger Boynes handed over the money, the first installment of a promised $7 million over four years, to Romany yesterday.

And  NAAA president Ken Doldron received the $193,368 which is to assist with the cost of the Trinidad and Tobago athletes for the Carifta Games over the  Easter Weekend in Bermuda. At the handing over ceremony at his Duke and Frederick Street offices, Boynes said: “We at the Ministry of Sport are taking a professional approach to the development of sports in this country and hence we are here to work hand in hand with the sporting associations.” Also attending yesterday’s ceremony were Permanent Secretary Earl Nesbitt and Director of Sport Kent Rennie.
