Netball ‘babes’ in close finishes
THERE were some close calls when the netball “babes” of the Port-of-Spain Netball League got into action at the Lystra Lewis Courts, Princes Building. The aspiring netballers in the Barbara Burnette “B2” Division sweated and toiled on Monday afternoon, with Gems pulling off a thrilling 12-11 victory over Soul City. For the winners, little goal-shoot Nilah Coltes scored eight goals and sister and goal-attack Hanifah got four, while Lisa Headley led Soul City with nine goals and Trivette Roberts got the other two.
In another close match, Printery youngsters triumphed over Mucurapo Junior Secondary 13-10, with Victoria St Louis scoring eight goals and Natasha Groom, five for the winners. Anuola Camejo got eight and Adisha Mottley and Jolene Charles got one apiece for Mucurapo. Candase Castle scored four goals and Cindy-Ann Jackson three for Arima Ball Masters to beat Malvern 7-4 in their fixture. Latoya Farray netted three and Lydia George one for the losing team. CS Jets held off Arima United 14-11 with Rachel Dillon and Fiola Welch scoring seven goals each. Delicia Mollon had four goals from nine attempts, Kamarie Jack had a perfect four of four and Giselle Bristol got three of four for the Arimians.
Chips had the better of Sparkles 11-6 in their encounter on six goals from six attempts by Carolyn Murrell and five from Jinelle Spencer.
Kellyann Francis scored all six goals for her team. But San Juan Jabloteh had no trouble dispersing with Harlem 20-11 with Niza Patterson scoring 17 goals and Nicola Lewis three. Jillisa Allan had eight, Onika Navarro two and Kefia Baptiste one for the losing team.
