Treat all customers fairly

THE EDITOR: As a young female citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, on many occasions I have been subjected to cautious stares by store clerks and security guards. On one particular occasion, I visited a Mall and went into a shop with a group of friends. We all had back packs on as we were Christmas shopping.

Upon entering the store, the male security guard was alerted by the store clerk. He then proceeded to pursue us all through the store, from the bra section right to the cashier. Not once were we offered assistance by a store clerk. As a customer I felt very aggravated and uninvited, they treated us as as though we were there to steal.

If the management had a problem with our bags, I would have gladly relieved myself of it if they had provided a section for customers’ bags.
Business places particularly in Trinidad should be trained on what is good customer service and try to practice it sometimes, as they in turn will be customers themselves. All customers should be treated fairly no matter their race, gender or age.
