Yashoda doubtful for Ibis Stakes

A CLOUD hangs over one the fancied horses in the 14-runner Ibis Stakes to be staged on the Arima Race Club Day 11 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Monday. The Harriram Gobin-trained Yashoda who gave a good showing when filling the runner-up spot behind Seaham Harbour on her debut, returned sore after a workout yesterday, and may miss the 1350 metres race. The daughter of Kdanzc/Top Priority was sent for her final blowout for Monday’s engagement with Mucho Tempo and held her own against her more highly thought of stablemate in the spin over 800 metres covered in 56.28 seconds.

On her return, however, she continued to dip her head favouring her left foreleg, which suggested she was feeling pain. But French Academy one of the  declared runners for the same event looked in top shape. The John O’Brien hopeful looked ready for combat,  posting an easy-looking 50.03 seconds over the last 800 metres of the main course. Phantom Bidder and Gray Warrior, who have separate engagements on the holiday programme also had pleasing runs yesterday.

The pair drilled 600 metres separately, with the Arima Race Club Cup entrant posting 35.34 seconds, and his once-raced companion, who will be going for the Imported Maiden event posting 36.22 seconds. Fast Company and Creme Caramel were others to have issued warning signals over the same acreage yesterday, with the former breezing her trip in 35.29 seconds, which was best on time for the distance on the morning. Creme Caramel went slightly slower in 36.24 seconds. Here are gallops recorded:
